If your friend has just had a baby, this is what you should do for her.

What do most new moms want? Sleep, of course, but also good food and someone to help around the house. So allow her to get some rest while you pick up a meal, spin a load of laundry, and do a little cleaning.

Make sure she has plenty of magazines and other gifts that remind her of the outside world — after all, she has no idea what’s going on out there! Soaps, face masks, a robe and pajamas are all good options for a frazzled new mom.

Also, I guarantee that she couldn’t care less about the time you gave birth. So don’t talk about your own baby. Instead, listen to her, and only offer advice when asked for it.

And don’t be afraid to rip that baby out of her hands for a second. There’s nothing like holding a newborn baby!

New dads — a whole different set of rules applies to you.¬†Here’s what you shouldn’t and shouldn’t do after your significant other gives birth.
