“Robert Blake has died. I realize that many people have had harsh feelings toward him. His life seemed to involve many dramatic legal entanglements,” Baldwin wrote on his Instagram.

“Today, I want [to] remember him as the incredibly gifted actor he was. A child actor who made countless films in the 40’s.” He went on to list some films and TV shows that Blake was recognized for during his career, including, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, A Town Without Pity, Electra Glide in Blue, and more.

Baldwin specifically highlighted the film In Cold Blood, which seemed to leave the biggest impression on him, as it solidified Blake’s status in movie history. “Blake and Scott Wilson give two of the greatest performances of all time in the film based upon Truman Capote’s novel,” the actor noted.

“The brooding, baby-faced Blake had a difficult life. However, when you watch IN COLD BLOOD, you are transfixed and overwhelmed by his work in this masterpiece.”

Blake passed away on Thursday at the age of 89 in Los Angeles due to heart disease according to a statement released by his niece, Noreen Austin.

“He died at home with family around him peacefully, long-term heart issues,” Austin told news outlets. “He spent the last few years listening to jazz music and playing his guitar and watching classic movies.”

Robert Blake, who was once regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation, later became better known for his involvement in a real-life murder case. He was tried and acquitted for the killing of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, who died outside a restaurant in Studio City on May 4, 2001.

Baldwin has a history of expressing similar sentiments towards controversial celebrities, as he previously celebrated Woody Allen in an Instagram post last summer. The post featured a video promoting Allen’s book “Zero Gravity” and Baldwin’s interview with the director, with Baldwin stating that he was uninterested in others’ opinions and judgment.

Baldwin’s post about Allen was made in referring to the sexual abuse allegations made against the director by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992. Allen has consistently denied the allegations, while Farrow maintains that he sexually abused her.
