Amanda Bynes has officially been put on a psychiatric hold. A source close to the actress confirmed to NBC News that the 36-year-old is in a 72-hour hold, adding, “She hasn’t been in contact with her family for quite some time.” Bynes’ longtime attorneys said on March 20th that he wasn’t in a position to comment on the situation.

The news of the hold comes almost a year after a judge had terminated the actress’ conservatorship after her petition to dissolve the arrangement was supported by her parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes. Bynes had been in a personal Conservatory ship since 2013, which was terminated in 2017.

“In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter,” Bynes said in a statement through her attorney, David Esquibias back on March 22, 2022. “I am excited about my upcoming endeavors — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can.”

At  that time, Ventura Superior Judge Roger L. Lund had indicated that the termination came as evidence presented to the court showed that “grounds for establishment of a conservatorship of the person no longer exists.”  According to court documents that were filed in 2020 by the actress’ attorney, she had been living in a “structured community for women” since 2022,  where she was expected to live a very independent lifestyle but did have regular check-ins with a case manager.

In an interview with Paper Magazine back in 2018, she opened up about her substance abuse and being in a “dark” place. “I got really into my drug usage and it became a really dark, sad world for me,” she states, saying she was  “just stuck at home, getting high, watching TV and tweeting.”

“I’ve been sober for almost four years now,” Bynes added, thanking her parents for helping her get back on track.

The child star was originally expected to attend 90s Con with her former All That cast members this past weekend but had to cancel her appearance. Through an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the event, Kel Mitchell and Ken Thompson sent quite a heartfelt message to Bynes.

“I’ve just been praying for her,” Mitchell stated. “We’re just continuing to pray for her on her journey, and it’s answered prayers that she’s doing a lot better.”
