At Netflix’s pre-Oscar party in Los Angeles on Saturday, the 34-year-old first-time Academy Award nominee honored Marilyn Monroe’s legendary 1962 “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress! She was seen wearing a beautiful David Koma nude outfit that left other in shock!

De Armas channeled old Hollywood glamour by wearing a sequined, mid-length dress in a nude shade with a bodice top. She paired the outfit with matching pointed stilettos and accessorized it with gold bangles and a green structured clutch with gold accents.

A Bold Look!

“The night before….” de Armas wrote on her Instagram with a selfie of her dolled-up look, showing off her glamour which featured a bold red lip.

The Cuban actress wore a dress that was inspired by the iconic Jean Louis gown that Monroe wore in back in 1962 while singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden.

In last year’s Met Gala, Kim Kardashian caused quite a controversy by wearing Monroe’s actual dress, prompting criticism from historians and saying she had damaged the one-of-a-kind piece, which was custom-made for Monroe’s measurements. Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, the current owner of the dress, asserted that it was “in the same condition” as it was before lending it to the reality TV star.

De Armas, who played Monroe in last year’s Netflix film Blonde, a fictionalized account of Monroe’s life based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel, has been nominated for Best Actress at this year’s Oscars. The film has faced criticism from some who think it glorifies Monroe’s victimization and self-sacrifice.

“I think that’s what has been tough for the audience to understand about the movie; the emotional truth is so powerful in the film that it’s hard to separate that it’s not a biopic,” de Armas told Variety at the time of the backlash. “I’ve heard, ‘You missed this part of her life,’ and ‘She was not only sad or depressed.’ And I’m like, ‘I know, but we’re not telling that story.'”
