Angelina Jolie is still one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, even if she seems to be scaling back the number of projects she joins.

Jolie isn’t acting, directing, or producing any movies this year. To boot, she doesn’t have any projects with a release date announced for 2023.

Angelina Jolie is currently filming (and producing and writing) Without Blood, which doesn’t yet have a release date. She’s also producing Maleficent: Mother of All Fairies, but while it’s in preproduction, that film also doesn’t have a release date.

With that in mind, Angelina Jolie fans might have to settle for only Jolie’s voice. She’s lending hers to the animated Kung Fu Panda 4, due in 2024.

That’s an impressive number of projects for an actor who confirmed to The Guardian in November 2014 that she planned to retire after making just one more movie. Obviously, that didn’t happen.

Since November 2014, Angelina Jolie racked up more roles in 2015’s By the Sea, 2019’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, 2020’s Come Away and The One and Only Ivan, and 2021’s Those Who Wish Me Dead and Eternals.

More Reasons Angelina Jolie Plans to Retire From Acting

Her intention to leave acting was two-fold.

Secondly, she told The Guardian that she still didn’t feel like a natural actor.

“I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera,” Jolie revealed. “I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.”

When asked if she would give up acting permanently, Angelina Jolie smiled and said “absolutely.”

She cited another reason for retiring from acting: to spend more time with her six children.

“I think I’m going to have to give up acting as the kids hit the teenage years,” Jolie explained to Britain’s Channel 4 News that there would be “too much to manage at home.

“I’ve enjoyed being an actress,” Angelina Jolie continued in the interview. “And I am so grateful to the job. I’ve had great experiences, and I have even be able to tell stories and be a part of stories that mattered. … It’s a really lucky profession to be a part of. But if it went away tomorrow, I would be very happy to be home with my children.”

Angelina Jolie’s four children are Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 14. Will the next time we hear from the actor be in the form of a retirement announcement?

Inquiring minds want to know.
