Aubrey Plaza, whose career is red-hot right now, got hitched last year to writer/director Jeff Baena after starring in his 2014 zombie comedy Life After Beth. Baena got lucky, because Plaza almost married Michael Cera earlier that decade.

Those who saw Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World most likely associate lead actor Cera with the wacky action romcom. (And not many people did see the Edgar Wright bomb, despite his colleagues Kevin Smith — and supposedly Quentin Tarantino and Jason Reitman too — professing their love for it.)

Many forgot that Aubrey Plaza also had a supporting part in the 2010 flick. And almost no one remembers — or even heard — her telling RuPaul in a podcast six years ago that she almost fell for Cera. Like, fell hard enough that she could almost hear wedding bells.

Aubrey Said What?!

As website LADbible recalled in an article published Tuesday, Plaza let her affection for Cera slip in an episode of RuPaul: What’s the Tee with Michelle Visage that dropped in November 2016. Vanity Fair and other media outlets immediately jumped on the revelation shortly after Plaza made it six years ago.

Aubrey Plaza reportedly said that, after meeting Cera on the set of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, they took an unforgettable road trip together across the U.S.

“We drove across the country after we shot that movie and almost got married in Vegas,” she reporedly said.

They actually dated for a year and half before going their separate ways.

Well, just about. Aubrey Plaza reportedly said she and Cera are still friends.

“He’s a very special — I mean, we love each other,” Plaza reportedly said on the podcast. “We’re still really good friends and he’s just a weird little freak and we speak the same language. He’s one of the funniest people I know.”

As for his part, Cera hasn’t ever spoken publicly about their relationship, according to LADbible.

Finally, Aubrey Plaza Is Getting Lots of Looks

Before this year, it felt like ages since we’d last seen Plaza, the actress still most recognizable for her endless eye-rolling on Parks and Recreation. Now she seems to be everywhere, thanks to her head-turning performances in the indie crime thriller Emily the Criminal and HBO’s recently concluded The White Lotus: Sicily.

On Monday, Aubrey Plaza learned that she will be under consideration for best-supporting actress honors at the Golden Globe Awards due to the anthology comedy. The latest season of the increasingly popular White Lotus aired Sunday.

Meanwhile, Plaza is racking up award nominations left and right for two towering performances she gave this year.

In addition to her Golden Globe nomination, her starring role in Emily the Criminal is drawing Aubrey Plaza perhaps, even more, most praise. For that performance, she’s up for Best Lead Performance and Best First Feature at next year’s Independent Spirit Awards.

The Gotham Awards considered her for Outstanding Lead Performance for the same role, but the prize went to Danielle Deadwyler of Till.
