We found out a couple of months ago that The Voice will soon be singing a new song with the departure of Blake Shelton. But now we have the deets as to why he’s leaving.

The country-music star told People in a cover story interview published yesterday that he wants to spend more time with his family. If you’re not a pop-culture news buff, that includes wife and Voice co-coach Gwen Stefani, as well as the three children she had with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously,” Shelton said. “The kids see me as a very important person in their life,” he continues. “[When they ask,] ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”

He continued: “If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.”

Oklahoma: Where the Buffalo Roam, and Where Shelton’s Family Calls Home

Shelton further discussed that he and Stefani feel “settled” in their Oklahoma home after getting married in July 2021.

“We get away from everything [in L.A.], and we’re just us. It truly does feel different,” he said. “That’s where I feel the most comfortable, happy and safe.”

Shelton reportedly added that he also plans to spend more time on two other projects of his. Those endeavors are his Lands’ End clothing line and TV game show Barmageddon, which aired on the USA Network earlier this week.

However, he quizzically told the magazine: “I’ve had people say, ‘Man, come on. You’re not quitting The Voice [to do] nothing!’” Shelton told People. But I really am. Please, I’m accepting ideas.”

Well, even if he does stay busy after The Voice, his wife will probably be OK with his activities — so long as he stays away from Adam Levine.
