It took a little help from Elton John, but Britney Spears is back in the top 10.

For Britney, that’s actual news these days, as she hasn’t had a song in the top 10 since 2009. But her duet with John, Hold Me Closer, is currently at No. 6 on the Billboard pop chart.

Until now, Spears had been mostly in the news for the conservatorship involving her father, which lasted 13 years. She stepped away from making music for the last six (unless you count her performances on Instagram).

Britney Spears Celebrates on Instagram

With Britney back on the charts, you can’t help but wonder if a new studio album is in the works. Well, it doesn’t seem like it. Not yet.

Per PopSugar.com:

“The pop star hasn’t shared any plans to return to the recording studio, but in 2021, a source told People that Spears would like to release another album one day. The source explained that while she ‘loves creating music and wants to give her fans a new album,’ the singer ‘is focusing on one thing at a time.’”

Hold Me Closer

Hold Me Closer is an updated, popped-up version of Tiny Dancer, John’s smash hit, originally released 50 years ago. The song currently opened with 20.9 million in radio airplay audience, has over 11 million streams and has sold 48,000 copies.

This is Spears’ 14th top ten and her first hot 100 top 10 in a full decade, her last being No. 3 with will.i.am in 2012 with “Scream & Shout.” Spears also joins the very exclusive club of female artists with top 10s in four consecutive decades.

This is John’s 29th top 10 on the Hot 100, becoming the third most amongst males. His previous top 10 was his collaboration with Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart.”
