We can all agree that Captain America is more handsome than Ant-Man. But now we have definitive proof that the same goes for the actors who portrayed those comic book characters: Chris Evans just dethroned Paul Rudd as People‘s “Sexiest Man Alive.”

It’s still an impressive accomplishment (of sorts) for Chris Evans. After all, just two years ago, he publicly shared a photo of his, ahem, member on social media.

Despite his good — OK, great — looks, it might surprise some that Evans is a lifelong bachelor with no kids. (He does, however, have a trusty adopted dog named Dodger.)

At 41, Chris Evans is more than a decade younger than Rudd. (The Ant-Man actor was the third-oldest man to receive the honor and appear on the cover of People’s annual sexiest man issue.)

But young adults probably perceive him as old anyway. Not only did he retire from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after appearing in eight movies as Captain America, his send-off in 2019’s Avengers: End Game depicted him as an old man.

Chris Evans gladly accepted the mantle of “Sexiest Man Alive” in a post on his Instagram account.

“Thanks @people!! I think we can all agree that it’s damn near impossible to follow in Paul Rudd’s footsteps in any capacity, but I’ll do my best,” he quipped.

Chris Evans is The Sexiest Man Alive

The wryly worded post from the good-natured Evans seems to hint at the goofiness of People’s annual charade. After all, “sexiest” is subjective, in the eye of the beholder — and there aren’t any metrics or algorithms to determine who claims the mantle.

Then again, what woman wouldn’t consider this sexy?:
