Lynn’s death comes days after she had celebrated her 60th anniversary as a well-known member of the Grand Ole Opry. Throughout her 60-year career, the icon gained 51 top 10 hits. She won 4 Grammy Awards, 7 American Music Awards, and a total of 8 Country Music Association awards. She was also the first woman to win the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards for Entertainer of the Year.

Lynn was inducted in 1988 into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008, and was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2003. She then went on to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. Worldwide, she’s sold over 45 million albums.

Some of her top hits include “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Fist City,” and “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).”

Her songs made even a wider impact after the oscar-winning 1980 film Coal Miner’s Daughter which stars Sissy Spacek. This helped amplify her country genre and opened a new world to other songwriters and artists including Jack White. Together, White and Lynn made a grammy-winning album in 2004 titled Van Lear Rose.

Instead of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Loretta Lynn Foundation. Information about her service and celebration of life will be made later this week.
