Diane Keaton’s new film Mack & Rita just hit theaters. But the legendary actor already dreads seeing what she wore in the new comedy.
Wearing the costume she wears in the big promotional picture for the photo was intentional, of course. But in a new interview with Vogue, Diane Keaton doesn’t mince words: She says she is “not attractive” in the get-up.
“I’m looking at the picture from Mack & Rita that they’re selling of me and what I’m wearing,” she said. “It’s not attractive — those legs are like sticks. It’s so stupid! So I hope it’s funny. I hope people get a kick out of how ridiculous it is. The girls in the background [Lail and Taylour Paige] are both going to be big stars. And there I am, the moron on her last legs.”
Keaton elaborated on the character she plays in the body-swap movie, which came out Friday.
She said the character, is “more like an idiot, I’ll tell you that. That’s why I had a good time on the film, because I was just being me. I wouldn’t go so far as to wear the clothing that’s on the billboard. It’s terrible, are you kidding? That white thing with that belt around my waist … and those legs? I’ve never seen anything worse. And the fact that we put on those leggings with those boots? I mean, that’s scary.”
Diane Keaton Takes Blame For Ugly New Look
Keaton freely admitted that, as a coproducer on the movie, she had a hand in the disastrous wardrobe choice.
“Are you thinking I didn’t pick out those clothes with help? I did,” she said. “That was my choice. I’m taking the hit for that one. Of course the hair too — lovely. It says that I’m also a coproducer down at the bottom there, so they had to deal with me. I made some perfect choices for that character.”
Speaking of choices, Keaton recently told Entertainment Weekly that no one wanted Al Pacino to be cast as Michael Corleone in The Godfather.
“Nobody wanted Al Pacino. They didn’t want him to play that part, and I had already been cast,” she said of her co-star on the film. “I had been cast before Al Pacino in Godfather 1! Is this not weird?”
