But now, the talk-show host is opening up about a nightmarish battle she waged behind the scenes for years.
Drew Barrymore: The Open Book We All Need
Drew Barrymore hasn’t ever seemed to be a cagey celebrity nervous that any word they say could be contorted and used again in some way or another. But with The Drew Barrymore Show, which is now in its third season, the host might be opening up like never before.
About a month ago, the actress revealed in a very candid blog post that she hasn’t had sex since 2016.
Also, years back, Barrymore once told Howard Stern that her mother essentially set zero boundaries for her as a child. Barrymore said she became a party animal by age 13, thanks to her mom bringing her to clubs. She’d been introduced to drugs and alcohol, attempting rehab by the age of 12 and then falling off the wagon.
Drew’s Harrowing Battle with Booze
Drew’s new personal essay, which appears in Drew magazine, is another deep insight into the life of Barrymore. The 47-year-old actress called her decision to give up booze “one of the most liberating things in my journey of life.”
“One of the bravest things you can do,” she writes, “is slay those dragons and finally change an awful cycle in which you’ve found yourself stuck. For me, it was to stop drinking.”
Barrymore said giving up alcohol was “one of the most liberating things in my journey of life.” It allowed her “to finally become free of the torture of guilt and dysfunction,” her essay reportedly said.
