Emma Roberts Webbing Her Way Into The Spider-Man Universe

She sounds a little sinister, but Marvel’s Madame Web is actually on the side of good. And no less than Emma Roberts has been added to the cast of the latest Sony Universe production.

Roberts is quite a get, perhaps the biggest name of the ensemble — which also includes Dakota Johnson in the lead role, as relayed by Deadline. Others playing supporting actresses include Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim.

But it is Roberts who has the biggest appeal to her generation. He came to prominence as a star on Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, before hitting the big screen. Along with portraying the title character in Nancy Drew, she nabbed roles in Aquamarine and Valentine’s Day. Those were followed by appearances in more edgy flicks, such as Scream 4 and We’re The Millers, as well as the FX series American Horror Story and Fox dark comedy Scream Queens.

Now, she’s getting to take a stab at entertaining the rabid Marvel fandom. But this is no ordinary Marvel movie.

Per Yahoo Entertainment:

“‘Madame Web’ is Sony’s first modern comic book adaptation to feature a female in the headlining role. It is one of several Spider-Man related spinoffs in development, including director J.C. Chandor’s ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ starring Aaron Taylor Johnson; and ‘El Muerto,’ featuring the musician known as Bad Bunny.”

Roberts, 31, hails from New York and is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and niece of actress Julia Roberts. She has won multiple accolades for her performances, including including a Young Artist Award, an MTV Movie & TV Award, and a ShoWest Award.

All of that said, it’s probably best to contain your excitement. Madame Web is still in production and isn’t due to be released in theaters until July 7, 2023.
