George Clooney doesn’t fear commitment. He’s already proved it, through his marriage to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin eight years ago.

But, as he revealed Friday on The Drew Barrymore Show, he was scared about becoming a father later in life. Much later in life.

After all, George Clooney was 56 years old when Alamuddin gave birth to their twins, Alexander and Ella, in June 2017.

“That wasn’t part of the plan, I wanna say,” Clooney remarked.

Clooney: Twins? What?!

George Clooney recalled to Barrymore when he and Alamuddin found out they had twins on the way.

After a doctor conducted some tests when Alamuddin was 12 weeks pregnant, the doctor told George Clooney and his wife: “It’s a boy. … And then he goes, ‘And a girl.’”

“I was, like, ‘What?!’” Clooney said. “It was such a disaster. I was like, ‘What, are you kidding me?’ Now it’s the greatest thing in the world. I was terrified then.”

When Barrymore asked him to elaborate, Clooney replied: “Well, I was 56 years old, and that just sounded terrifying to me.”

Accordingly, he turned to the audience to see if they could relate.

“When I was [20], I would hear somebody died and say, ‘Well, they lived a good life!’” he also said, to the crowd’s laughter. “Right? Right? They’re shaking their heads.”

For years, George Clooney was deemed one of the most eligible bachelors. But that came to an end when he met human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Alamuddin is a Lebanese-born attorney who specializes in international law as well as human rights. The two met for the first time in Lake Como, where the star owns an Italian estate. They met in July 2013 through a mutual friend and have been together ever since, marrying the following year.
