A team of German scientists has decided to test out the Matrix. Or more specifically, the man who stars in that movie — by naming a fungus-killing bacteria after noted actor Keanu Reeves.

How’s that for an honor?

“They should’ve called it John Wick … but that’s pretty cool … and surreal for me,” Reeves wrote in a chat with Reddit users. “But thanks, scientist people! Good luck, and thank you for helping us.”

Reeves, 58, has a reputation for being one of the most “real” Hollywood types on the planet. He also has starred in plenty of action flicks, from The Matrix franchise to the John Wick series to the likes of Johnny Mnemonic and Point Break.

So perhaps it’s not surprising that Germany’s Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology named the fungus-killer after the actor.

“The lipopeptides kill so efficiently that we named them after Keanu Reeves because he, too, is extremely deadly in his roles,” Sebastian Götze, a researcher with Leibniz, said in a press release.

The compound is actually called “keanumycins” and fights against plant fungal diseases and human-pathogenic fungi, per the release. This makes it a great alternative to chemical pesticides, as keanumycins is harmless to plants and humans.

Reeves, 58, is next set to star in John Wick: Chapter 4, a role he called perhaps his most physically challenging.

“They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox,” he told Total Film back in January.

No word on if any of the scenes will involve Reeves killing off some plants. Or perhaps protect them from fungi.
