New Projects

Sources close to the project have reported that the potential multi-season series will be based on J.K. Rowling’s original seven books. Every book in the series, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and concluding with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will have its own season of the show.

The new series, which would be part of HBO Max, would explore the original Harry Potter story in a different way, unlike the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which created new stories set in the same universe but not about the main characters from the books.

Bloomberg reports that Warner Bros. is expecting their series to be a major part of their upcoming streaming strategy, which will be announced next week on April 12. They will also be showing how HBO Max and discovery+ will be integrated and rebranded.

Negotiations

Rowling will be involved in the series for accuracy to the original storyline, but according to the network, she will not play a major role in the production.

David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros., and Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, have been in discussions with J.K. Rowling, according to Bloomberg. However, no agreement has yet been finalized.

It’s hard to predict the success of the rumored reboot series, but one thing is certain: it will be difficult to replicate the original movies’ immense popularity. The Harry Potter franchise, spanning eight films, grossed an impressive $7.7 billion at the box office. While the negative reception of the Fantastic Beasts movies and Rowling’s loss of some fans may have seemed to indicate waning enthusiasm for the brand, that trend appears to have been reversed with the success of the new video game Hogwarts Legacy.
