Helena Bonham Carter Thinks Amber Heard Wanted to Be a #MeToo Poster Girl

“Oh, I think he’s completely vindicated,” she said. “I think he’s fine now. Totally fine.” Carter added that she thought Amber Heard jumped on the #MeToo bandwagon a little too late. She called the libel case an example of the “pendulum of #MeToo swinging back.”

“[Heard] got on that pendulum,” Carter claimed. “That’s the problem with these things — that people will jump on the bandwagon because it’s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.”

Helena Bonham Carter has known Johnny Depp for quite some time. They’ve starred in 7 movies together over the years. Many of those films were directed by Tim Burton, to whom Carter was married from 2001 to 2014. Depp is also the godfather to Carter’s children with Burton, Billy Ray (18) and Nell (14). The two actually became friends through Tim Burton. Burton and Depp were friends first, and then Carter started hanging out with them. She and Depp bonded over their acting chemistry and then became lifelong friends.

The Johnny Depp – Amber Heard Trial Was Messy, Public Interpreted as a Win for Depp

The trial was a civil suit. Depp was suing Heard for defamation after she wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post in 2018. It was titled “Amber Heard: I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

In the piece, Heard never mentioned Depp by name. However, Depp accused Heard of defaming him, alleging that everyone knew who she was talking about. He claimed that he’d lost work, one example being that he was cut from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Interestingly, in 2020, a British court ruled in favor of The Sun when Depp tried to sue the publication for calling him a “wife beater.” That lawsuit involved testimony and evidence from both Depp and Heard. The court ruled that the label was “substantially true” after 12 of 14 incidents of domestic violence were found to have actually occurred.

But such was not the case with the recent trial between Depp and Heard in the United States. The verdict ruled in favor of both actors for defaming each other but Heard was made to pay Depp a much heftier sum of $10.35 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. In comparison, Depp was ordered to pay $2 million to Heard in compensatory damages and $0 in punitive damages. The public interpreted this as a major joss for Heard and the ultimate vindication for Depp.

Depp was ordered to pay damages because his legal team defamed Amber when they accused her of orchestrating a hoax.

Amber Heard Allegedly Moved to Another Country to Avoid Drama

Heard has since left the country and still intends to appeal the decision made by a 7-person jury. She was reported to move to Spain to live with her friend, director Bianca Butti.

She took her 1-year-old daughter, Oonagh Paige Heard.

At one point, online critics and trolls were threatening to microwave Oonagh. Heard discussed this in court while breaking down in tears.

“People want to kill me, and they tell me so every day,” Heard testified. “People want to kill my baby in the microwave, and they tell me that.”

Heard has stopped posting to social media since the trial verdict, leaving just one final post about being disappointed on June 1.

Helena Bonham Carter Not the Only Celeb to Favor Depp

Helena Bonham Carter is just one of many celebrities to bash Amber Heard over her very publicized trial with Johnny Depp.

Sharon Osbourne accused Heard of “wanting to destroy” Johnny Depp when she should have just moved on.

“Johnny’s got a huge price on his head, the world loves him,” Osbourne said on Talk TV’s Piers Morgan. “The world really did want him to win, and he’s won and that’s it. She could have backed out somehow, she could have got to him, there could have been something to save it going on. Because he wouldn’t have gone this far, if she didn’t push and push and push — she wanted to destroy him.’”

During an appearance on Lorraine, Osbourne pointed out that “we all have our ugliness in every relationship, but theirs was extreme.” She also called Depp a “gentle soul” and “a good human being.”

Mickey Rourke also had some harsh words for Amber Heard. Speaking to Piers Morgan, he called her a “gold digger.”

“Well, you know, I’ve known Johnny for many years, but I don’t really know him intimately,” Rourke told Morgan. “All I could say is I was in a situation one time where I got blamed for something that I didn’t do. It cost me movie jobs for several years and it caused a bad reputation. And finally, the truth came out but the truth came out after I lost movies and I lost jobs and and so I felt bad for somebody that is trying to get chopped down by some gold digger, you know.”

When Piers Morgan asked Rourke if he thought Amber Heard was a gold digger, Rourke emphatically answered. “Abso- f***ing-lutely. Absolutely.”

Heard Has Been Heavily Trolled

The internet largely has sided with Depp as well. At one point, #NewJobsForAmberHeard was trending. Memes galore popped up, and none of them were flattering. And prior to leaving the country, a church near Heard’s home in Yucca Valley posted a sign that said, “Truth Wins.” It was thought that, because there were only two roads to her home, the sign was put up intentionally to troll Heard. The Aquaman actress sold that house in July, for just over $1 million. She’d bought it in 2019 for about $570,000.

As for Amber Heard’s appeal, we don’t know if that will actually go through. Another question is how she’s paying for her legal fees. Some have conjectured that ex-boyfriend Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, might be assisting with that.

  1. Amber was only in this relationship for the perks but Johnny was way too naive for a man his age..please,I hope men his age know that these young girls are not seeking a longtime relationship with an older man..if Johnny was not wealthy, she would not have even looked his way.You cannot be young ago guys just because you get a young girl or wife.Date someone your own age with their own money…..period and hopefully lesson learned by all!
