‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Casts Ancestor to Caesar Flickerman To Host Its 10th Annual Games

Hunger Games Prequel: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is officially adding Jason Schwartzman to its cast, according to The Wrap. Schwartzman will be playing Caesar Flickerman’s ancestor, Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman.

The new Hunger Games movie will be the fifth in the franchise (The Mockingjay had Parts 1 & 2). Its official synopsis is:

“Years before he would become the tyrannical president of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.”

The Hunger Games Prequel is already slated to release November 17, 2023.

Yes, that’s a long time from now. But, considering that it’s been 7 years since The Mockingjay Part 2, we can probably wait.

Young President Coriolanus Snow will be played by Tom Blyth and Lucy Gray Baird will be played by Rachel Zegler. Other cast members include Zegler’s actual boyfriend, Josh Andrés Rivera, Ashley Liao, Knox Gibson, Jerome Lance, Mackenzie Lansing, Nick Benson, Aamer Husain, Lilly Cooper, Luna Steeples, Laurel Marsden, and Hiroki Berrecloth.

There Probably Won’t Be a Jennifer Lawrence Appearance

It’s unlikely that Jennifer Lawrence or her younger costars from the earlier movies will appear in the film as it takes place before the first Hunger Games movie.

Suzanne Collins and Tim Palen are executive producers, and the film will be directed by Francis Lawrence. Production has allegedly already begun and filming is expected to commence very soon.

Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is being produced by Lionsgate motion picture group.
