Not only is 2022 turning out to be one of the biggest years ever for horror movies, it’s also seeing some major changes in the casts for long-running genre franchises. Jamie Lee Curtis recently retired from getting chased by Michael Myers in Halloween Ends, while Neve Campbell quit the Scream series. Could Anna Faris be the next scream queen to make a major move?

The Return of Anna Faris

Faris, who last starred in Overboard in 2018, delighted her fans to no end recently with the announcement that she is returning to the big screen after a four-year break. She will star in the sister comedy The Estate alongside Toni Collette and Kathleen Turner. The Estate marks the return to the big screen and to the playful comedy genre she is known for.

In light of that announcement, might she be up for another comedy, albeit one of a very different variety?

Playing on a Leading Lady’s Terms

Talk about Faris making another Scary Movie began after she did an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Speaking about Regina Hall, with whom she starred in the comedy parody series’ first four installments, she made a slight reference to another sequel.

“I love Regina so much,” Faris reportedly said. “We’re always making each other just giggle, and I loved that dynamic. I think it was a really unique element that we brought to the table for that franchise. I bet with the right paycheck, Regina would be in [another sequel] too.”

Horror-Movie Fans Are Living in Scary-Good Times

Scary Movie would have tons of new material to mine for spoofing, if a new installment in the parody franchise comes to fruition.

This year’s crop of horror films is massive, with many of them attracting both critical acclaim and big draws at the box office. They include Barbarian, Smile, Nope, X, Pearl, Malignant, The Invitation, Watcher, Bodies Bodies Bodies, You Won’t Be Alone, Piggy, and The Legend of La Llorona.

Perhaps the resurgence in high-quality horror movies reflects the terrifying times in which we now live. After all, nary a day goes by without a mass shooting, a careless threat of using nuclear weapons, and another reminder that the human race might go extinct due to climate change.

That said, don’t expect another Scary Movie to be anything other than a series of spoofs and goofs.
