The newly engaged couple stepped out for their first public event since announcing their big news. Held at Rothy’s sustainable shoe store, the Earth Day celebration supported the New York Bottle Bill, which intends to cut down on plastic waste in landfills.
In a conversation with People, the Barbarian co-stars opened up about how much the cause means to them.
“We learned early on how much we loved animals and I love sea turtles in particular,” said Long. “And so I was brought into this particular project through my love of that specific animal and how plastic waste is affecting that beautiful species that’s been around for 150 million years. And so when we learned what Rothy’s is doing and how they’re championing sustainability in that arena, we were just so inspired.”

The Superman Returns actress announced her engagement in a cute Instagram post using the titles of films she and her fiancé have been in.
“These things are funny to announce. How to do this right?” she captioned the romantic engagement photo, “He’s going the distance? I’ve got a Blue Crush? He’s just THAT into me? I’ve won a date with…??? Ok you get it!”
During their appearance at Rothy’s, the couple talked about what it’s like being in public after announcing their engagement.
“Yeah, it was really, it was super overwhelming,” Bosworth said. “I mean, as I said in my Instagram post, how do you announce these things? It’s funny because normally I guess people would announce it to their friends and family, but there’s a certain point where, when you’re in the public arena that it’s time to share something with the world.”
The He’s Just Not That Into You actor was excited to welcome his bride-to-be as a guest on his podcast, Life Is Short, to talk about their relationship.
“It felt like a leap to talk about something so personal so publicly,” Long wrote, “But I’ve found that the scary things become much easier when you commit to the truth… and to a partner as loving and safe as Catherine Ann Bosworth.”
