That could have been the setup for a music performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday — except it turned out to be surprisingly touching, not bizarre.

Superstar singer Clarkson decided to open her show Monday with a tribute to Lynn, the country music legend who died at age 90 earlier this month.

Clarkson’s decision to salute Loretta Lynn, a 60-year member of the Grand Ole Opry, via a duet with the Rock underscored her fun, wild-card appeal. But they pulled it off and delighted the live audience.

The pair did a two-minute rendition of “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin”(something Clarkson knows a little bit about).

Clarkson’s program called Monday’s performance “an extra special Kellyoke.”

Clarkson, naturally, hit the mark with her imitation of Loretta Lynn. But Johnson — currently promoting his upcoming superhero movie Black Adam — didn’t sound half-bad either.

The Rock doesn’t sing too often (at least not in public). He did, however, lend his chops to some Moana tunes. Oh, and he once sang — and played guitar — on an outrageous segment of WWE’s Raw.

Loretta Lynn was one of the most important county musicians of all time. As a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013, she had too many honors to count.

Worldwide, Lynn sold more than 45 million albums.
