On his first U.K. Mother’s Day without Queen Elizabeth, King Charles posted quite a heartwarming throwback photo on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account, remembering his late mother. The photo, from the Royal Collection Trust, shows a young King Charles sitting on the lap of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away in September 2022 at 96.

Along with the photo, the post also featured a picture of Queen Camilla and her late mother, Rosalind Shand, who passed away in 1994. The duo also paid tribute to all mothers on the special day known as “Mothering Sunday” which is celebrated in the U.K. each year on March 19. The heartwarming caption expressed their gratitude and respect toward all mothers.

“To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay,” the monarchs wrote.

As Charles and Camilla continue to follow the legacy of Queen Elizabeth, they not only remember her by speaking about her but also pay tribute to her through their clothing. Recently, at the annual Commonwealth Day Service, Camila wore a sapphire and diamond brooch that belonged to her late mother-in-law. She completed it with a black Launer handbag.

Launer has been closely associated with Queen Elizabeth, ever since the 1970s, and was also carried by her at her last public engagement when she appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss at Balmoral Castle on September 6. Soon after, Launer CEO Gerald Bodmer expressed his team’s honor at the Queen’s gesture.

“I’m amazed how she carried on carrying her bag with a walking stick. “She [once] said to me, ‘I don’t feel dressed without a handbag,’ ” Bodmer stated at the time.
