Back in the 1990s, Mark Wahlberg was all the rage. Just don’t remind his kids.
“Oh, they’re terribly embarrassed by it,” Wahlberg said of his early-career fashion choices in an interview with ET’s Rachel Smith that also included Me Time co-stars Kevin Hart and Regina Hall.
That said, part of the conversation centered around how daughter Ella Rae, 18, recently has been sporting a Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch T-shirt. But it’s cool if his kids wear it. Provided, it seems, you don’t remind them that dad once wore similar garb.
“My son, the whole time we were on summer break, doesn’t have a shirt on and has his underwear hanging out,” Wahlberg said. “He totally stole the whole look.”
Mark, 51, was one of the original members of New Kids on the Block, along with older brother Donnie. But Mark quit to launch his own solo career, rocking some serious ’90s fashion along the way.
It led to a career as an actor, a career that continues to march on successfully. But those earlier movies, man, forget about it. At least as far as his kids are concerned.
“My son has just recently turned 16,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in April. “And he gets embarrassed by everything I do. Even the stuff that people think is cool in 2022, like, movies and stuff. He’s like, ‘Dad, that’s so dumb. Dad, that’s terrible.’”

That said, Wahlberg’s family seems to be enjoying his new comedy. After all, Wahlberg said, they all watched it together.
“I watched with my whole family [without them] knowing anything about the story and the script, and to see the kids being able to enjoy it as much as the adults [was great],” he said. “There’s a lot of humor that goes a little over their heads, but it’s very enjoyable.”
Me Time will launch on August 26 on Netflix.
Added Hart: “To be honest with you, this movie’s just a good time. I couldn’t ask for a better cast to work with.”
