The Masked Singer just had its season 7 finale but it’s getting ready to return very soon. Fans will recall that Teyana Taylor just won as “Firefly,” but get ready because season 8 is supposed to be even better.
The show’s producer, Craig Plestis, told Deadline in March:
“It’s a challenge to outdo ourselves and to come up with some things that are going to sparkle and get America excited. I think there’s some ideas that we’re playing with with the network that are going to be super exciting and the first time that we ever see something.”
That was shortly after the original announcement of The Masked Singer renewal. Teyana Taylor, aka “Firefly,” hadn’t been pronounced as the winner yet.
The return date is set for September 21, 8 P.M. EST/ 11 P.M. PST. It will continue to air on Wednesdays on Fox. This season, the show will be paired with LEGO Masters.
For those who aren’t in-the-know, The Masked Singer features a lineup of famous celebrities, singers, and musicians, who compete with each other while in disguise. Their disguises are meant to completely hide their true identities not just from the public, but from judges and each other as well.
Last season sparked some controversy as the show featured Rudy Giuliani as one of the masked singers. His controversial episode aired on April 20.
Viewers were torn because some thought that Fox was making political statements or siding with the staunch Trump supporter. But executive Rob Wade assured Variety that they had “no regrets,” apart from spoilers by the press.
“The marketing is all about delivering jaw dropping moments, which is exactly what the casting accomplished. And whether it was on set or with the viewers at home I suppose my only regret or surprise was obviously the reveal was spoiled, but kudos to you guys. Just please don’t do it again. Thanks a lot,” Wade joked.
