Vanessa Guillen was just 20-years-old and in the military when she was murdered inside an armory at Fort Hood, Texas, by fellow soldier Aaron David Robinson in April 2020.

Her remains were discovered two months later along the Leon River, and upon hearing the news that he was the prime suspect, Robinson fled Fort Hod and fatally shot himself.

His girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar, was later arrested for assisting Robinson in dismembering Guillen.

It’s a tragic, shocking story, and one that Netflix is now bringing to the forefront with a new documentary entitled I Am Vanessa Guillen.

The movie focuses on Guillen’s family, and their fight for reform and answers.

“This was not one of those cases the military could sweep under the rug,” U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier says in the trailer, obtained by People.

Initially, Guillen’s sister Lupe said, the military did not offer any answers on her disappearance.

“They lied to our faces every single day, which is more than two months,” Lupe said at a press conference at the time.

“(They) didn’t respect my sister, they didn’t keep my sister safe. They’re always trying to cover up for each other. …My sister deserved respect. She deserves to be heard. Because if this could happen to my sister, it could happen to anyone else.”

The documentary is due to hit Netflix on Nov. 17.
