On January 27, 1993, the wrestling world lost a legend when the larger-than-life Andre the Giant passed away in his sleep from a congestive heart failure at the age of 46.

Whether it’s his feud with Hulk Hogan or his Piper’s pit with the late Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre served as a staple during what would become known as a golden age of wrestling and was a profound influence on the generations of wrestling that we see today.

In a tribute to The Eighth Wonder of the World, we’ve pulled together some of the most memorable matches and appearances from Andre’s career.

The energy was palpable the first time Hulk and Hogan stood face-to-face for the first time in 1979.

When he ventured into the Piper’s Pit, he managed to rattle the typically unrattle-able Rowdy Roddy Piper, another late and great legend.
