This is usually the time of the year when Santa breaks into homes to leave gifts. But in a scary situation for Robert De Niro, a woman unlawfully entered his house early Monday, trying to steal Christmas gifts and an iPad, CNN reported.
Fortunately for him, it was a very poor attempt. New York police responded so quickly that they arrested the 30-year-old before she could even leave De Niro’s hours.
The incident was nonetheless frightening because Robert De Niro and his daughter were home when the break-in happened. They were, however, on another floor of the house when the burglar broke in, according to CNN.
Police reportedly arrested the woman — one of the most notorious burglars in Manhattan’s Upper East Side — roughly around 2:45 a.m.
While the report didn’t identify the woman, it mentioned she is 30 years old and was previously arrested two other times on burglary charges in the area.
Robert De Niro’s Home Not the First to Be Targeted
Monday’s incident marked the latest attempted theft inside the home of a celebrity, as TMZ noted.
On the other side of the country, a would-be invader targeted Arsenio Hall’s Los Angeles home in September. After hearing a loud noise downstairs, he reportedly found that someone smashed his sliding door trying to enter his house.
That incident reportedly happened just two months after a pair of individuals broke into Hall’s home but fled without taking anything. Police haven’t yet arrested anyone connected to those attempted robberies, according to TMZ.
In a much more serious situation, robbers held Dorit Kemsley of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills at gunpoint in her mansion late last year, Extra reported. The thieves reportedly made off with bags of Kemsley’s belongings while her young children remained asleep.
“First of all, I was completely taken off guard,” Kemsley recalled to Extra. “They were surprised to see me at home. … When they did, they pushed me to the ground. They said, ‘Who else is in the home?’”
She continued: “There was someone else who said, ‘Just kill her, just kill her already, just kill her,’ and all I could think of, ‘I have to save those babies.’ I begged them, I begged for my life, and begged for their life.”
