Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, will develop the project, in which Candy’s family is also involved. Reynolds announced the forthcoming documentary on social media. He also mentioned Hanks as being involved, though it is still not known to what degree.

“With John Candy trending, I’ll just say I love him. So much so, [production company Maximum Effort] is working on a documentary on his life with [Colin Hanks],” Reynolds wrote. “Expect tears.”

Meanwhile, Candy’s family has agreed to give Maximum Effort full access to Candy’s home footage for the documentary, a Reynolds rep told People.

Candy died in 1994 of a heart attack while filming Wagons West. He was 43.

His son, Christopher Candy, confirmed the news from Reynolds by tweeting, “This is all true.” Daughter Jennifer Candy added, “Boom! So looking forward to working on this with them and our family. This project is in great hands.”

She has since pinned the tweet.

Along with that, Reynolds tweeted out a video of clips featuring Candy from his movies.

“It’s the 25th anniversary of John Candy’s passing,” Reynolds wrote. “We cooked up a small tribute to a comedic genius and Canadian hero. If you haven’t seen much of his work, take a look at his films. He was a treasure.”

The tweet was shared by Candy’s children.
