The Scream team threatened us with a new entry in the horror franchise, even though the fifth one came out earlier this year. And they were deadly serious.

Paramount Pictures on Wednesday released a one-minute teaser trailer for Scream VI. What appears to make this Scream outing different is that it takes place in an urban setting, whereas previous films in the series were set in the suburbs.

The clip starts off eerily quiet, then depicts a subway station filled with costumed young people, perhaps celebrating Halloween.

The teaser then shifts into a subway car, where multiple Ghostfaces appear about halfway through the clip. It’s only toward the very end of the video that viewers hear a blast of scary music, followed by the sound of a knife slashing — presumably into some unsuspecting victim.

The teaser trailer’s tagline reads (nonsensically, we may add): “In a city of millions, no one hears you scream.” That’s a play on the famous tagline from the 1979’s sci-fi/horror classic, Alien: “In space, no one can hear you scream.”

Scream VI on the March

The video’s description further reads: “Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

The teaser had already drawn more than 1.3 million views on YouTube and was trending in the number three spot, a day after Paramount posted it.

Scream VI is due in theaters on Mar. 10. That just a little over a year after the last installment, simply titled Scream, arrived Jan. 14 of this year.

Scream VI is the direct sequel to this year’s movie. Its returning cast members include Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega.

Notably absent from that list is longtime Scream franchise heroine Neve Campbell, who said she wouldn’t participate in the movie because she wasn’t going to get paid enough.

Joining the franchise are Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.
