Per Deadline, SNL creator Lorne Michaels made some comments about the cast backstage at the Emmy Awards on September 12. “There are four new people at least for now,” he said.

Michaels reportedly didn’t provide their names, as the ink hadn’t dried yet on agreements for the new cast members.

On Thursday, Parade reported that new cast additions for the new season include Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.

Michaels reportedly said Season 48 will mark a “transition” for the show.

“Change years are always difficult but always exciting,” he reportedly said. “There are new people. There are four new people at least for now.”

SNL’s chiefs have yet to announce the premiere date for Season 48. But we can at least piece together most of what the roster will look like.

Who Will Be on SNL This Year?

Mooney, Davidson, Bryant, and McKinnon said their goodbyes in the last episode of Saturday Night Live Season 47 in May. SNL regulars Melissa Villaseñor and Alex Moffat, and featured player Aristotle Athari, are also gone.

Moreover, Variety reported Monday that Chris Redd recently decided to leave the show too.

“The pandemic sort of interfered with the national order of things,” Michaels said. “I think there was a bonding, people got very close. When we did those at-home shows, you got to see everyone’s apartment where and how they lived. There was an intimacy and connection between audience and group. I couldn’t imagine we could work without that whole team so we kept going.”

The returning cast for Season 48 includes Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Andrew Dismukes, Michael Che, Heidi Garner, Chris Redd, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, James Austin Johnson, Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, and Punkie Johnson.

SNL brass typically announces the return of old and new cast members a few weeks before the show begins. Deadline specified that the new season will start with three consecutive new shows.

Who is Hosting SNL This Season?

Big names popped up on SNL’s social media, as they announced their first three hosts of the season. Miles Teller is set to make his debut in the season premiere on October 1 with musical guest Kendrick Lamar.

Brendan Gleeson will also make his debut, hosting on October 8 with Willow as musical guest. Last but not least, Meghan Thee Stallion will also make her debut, pulling a double as host and musical guest on October 15.
