The Internet is Convinced ‘Cars’ Isn’t a Kids Movie, Rather a NSFW One

A spinoff series of the Cars movie is debuting on Disney+, leading to plenty of talk about the original. Namely, why are there no motorcycles?

Actually, that’s not the only question being asked about the movie as the new Cars on the Road animated series is set to hit your streaming devices.

One of the things director Steve Purcell pointed out to Cinema Blend was the fact Lightning McQueen and his friends have no hands. So that could make things difficult.

“McQueen was going to hand a map to Sally, somebody was going to hand something to another character…We spent all day in story figuring out all these different ways until we went way off the rails and all these bizarre ideas,” Purcell said. “The window rolls down and a chimp hands the map out of the window. McQueen rears up and the map is on his chest.”

Obviously, the Cars team found ways around all this.

“You can cut around it. You can show a close-up of a map being thrown down on a table,” Purcell said. “Then cut to the reverse shot of our Cars characters looking at the said map. That would work, audiences would go with that.”

Cars on the Road Official Trailer

These days, Cars is making the rounds on the Internet as almost an NSFW flick. That’s odd, given that it’s intended for kids. But if you really pay attention, the film is actually heavily packed with NSFW references. Yup, it’s true. Sometimes the characters even respond to these references, specifically female characters that flash their lights.

In one scene, Lightning McQueen is approached by “twin” cars, who tell him they are his biggest fans. This is before their headlights pop all the way up for everyone to see. Of course, the rest of the crowd gasps, as McQueen responds “I love being me.” The scene might be innocent to children, but it’s pretty clear what it means to flash their ‘headlights’ to an adult.

Several people also pointed out that Cars has a lot of strip clubs in the film. It’s really a “don’t blink” moment, but the X-rated clubs are advertised on several signs for top-down truckstops. There, the waitresses are all “convertible.”

Last but not least, there is the ‘lemon party scene.’ Believe it or not, according to Dictionary.com, a Lemon Party actually refers to an “early 2000s shock website featuring an image of three elderly men having sex.” The actual words “lemon party” aren’t said in the movie, but there is one scene where three old cars are gathered together in a fancy dining room. That said dining room is heavily decorated with….lemons.

So yeah, is it a kid’s movie or an NSFW one? Who knows, take it as you will. Either way, Cars on the Road will feature nine animated shorts that feature the likes of McQueen and Mater, and all of the episodes can now be viewed on Disney+.
