It wouldn’t be Pinocchio without a star in the role of Geppetto, the mastermind behind the wooden puppet that comes to life.
And fear not, the Disney+ remake of the classic flick has found such a star. That’s right, no less than Tom Hanks will portray Geppetto.
Some have said Hanks is “unrecognizable” in the role, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The man behind the mustache is very clearly the former Forrest Gump and Castaway star.
Interestingly, Hanks is well known for voicing Sheriff Woody Pride of Toy Story fame. Geppetto has a shot to become an equally adored character for this generation. The teaser trailer is truly exciting, as it chronicles how Pinocchio comes to life and shows the special meeting between him and Geppetto.

Pinocchio himself will be voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. And Cynthia Erivo will play the fairy who brings Pinocchio to life.
The latest rendition will be directed by Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote the script. You may remember Zemeckis as the man who directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit? way back in 1988. So clearly, he knows animation. He has also worked with Hanks before for the films Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, and Cast Away.
Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will lend his voice as the lovable Jiminy Cricket and Luke Evans will voice the Coachman. But without question, it will be Hanks who steals the show.
Pinocchio, based on the 1883 book The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi, is set to begin streaming on September 8.
