Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past two years will be aware of Mike White’s satirical series The White Lotus. Now, season three of HBO’s hit anthology series is currently deep in development. Even though the show had mostly a new cast of characters and storylines for season 2, it seems likely that season 3 will continue plot points from last season.

Where Is White Lotus Season 3 Heading?
It has been confirmed by Variety that season 3 of The White Lotus will be heading to Thailand. Season 1 took place at a resort in Hawaii, while season 2 switched to Scilly. Creator Mike White spoke about season 3 in a featurette back when the season 2 finale aired, saying, “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
Season 2 of The White Lotus ended on a shocking note, with fan favorite character Tanya Mcquoid dying by attempting to jump from one boat to another and hitting her head, causing her to drown. The show caused a kind of renaissance of Coolidge’s career, so it will be disappointing for fans to not see her return, although it is possible Tanya could appear in flashbacks in season 3.
It is not clear which characters from the show’s past seasons will return for the next go-around, but some people believe Connie Britton will reprise her season 1 role of Nicole Mossbacher. Britton responded to the rumors in a conversation with Deadline back in June, saying “[White] wanted me to be in the second season, and there was an idea that I loved for the character. A piece of casting didn’t work in the second season and we’re hoping to [do] that in the third season. I would love to see a spin-off on every character in that show.” There are also rumors that Britton’s character is the sister of Michael Imperioli’s season 2 character’s wife.
Imperioli, who played Dominic Di Grasso, spoke to Esquire about the potential of his character coming back for season 3, saying, “Who knows, maybe there’ll be another White Lotus season where Dominic comes with his wife and they patch it all up!”
Even though the show is an anthology series from season to season, it seems likely that the third season will continue the storyline regarding the conspiracy of Tanya’s death, and her husband Greg’s involvement. It’s currently not clear how many episodes the new season will contain or when it will air, but all of these details should be revealed sooner rather than later.
