Whoopi Goldberg Farts (AGAIN?) on The ‘View’

The View/YouTube

Is it Whoopi Goldberg or Whoopee Goldberg? The View host seemed to pass some serious gas while on TV the other day, but it’s not even close to the first time. While the internet is up in arms over how to properly categorize Goldberg’s FartGate moment, they’re completely missing the point. Whoopi DGAF.

Whoopi’s Latest Gas-Passing Incident: Wednesday, March 15, 2023

While talking about Donald Trump and border policy, Whoopi struggled to finish her sentence. She lurched a little and clutched her chest as she seemed to hold back a burp. That’s right, it probably wasn’t a “fart” per se, but she admitted to passing gas.

“That was gas,” she said, as her View co-hosts started chuckling. But the internet isn’t fully convinced, with many thinking she was trying to cover up a much stinkier reality. At this point, anything’s fair to question, because Whoopi has a long history of farting on the show.

May 2011: Whoopi Tells View Guest Dr Oz That She Farts Frequently on TV

Dr Oz was a guest on The View back in 2011 when he asked the room who farted. The video has since been made private (good luck finding it) but Whoopi Goldberg allegedly raised her hand.

“How many of you have passed gas already since you’ve been out here?” asked Dr Oz (via HuffPost).

Whoopi began waving her hands upward and exclaimed, “Because there is more room out than in.”

Then Barbara Walters began to say something, and Whoopi interjected. “Wait a minute!” she said. “Yup.”

At that point, all the other View hosts (Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Joy Behar) all tried to move as far away as possible. “Whoopi, damn!” said Sherri.

December 2011: Whoopi Jokes That She “Blew a Little Frog Outta There”

While interviewing Claire Danes on December 15, 2011, a strange sound came out of nowhere. It sounded like a cross between a zipper, a kazoo, and a sneeze.

“Oh, excuse me! I think I just blew a little frog outta there,” said Whoopi.

Danes seemed unphased and Behar was laughing as the audience busted up. But was it really a fart?

When TMZ and HuffPost TV reached out to ABC for clarification on the incident, they were told it was just a joke.

“It was clearly a joke and all in good fun. Secretly we hoped it would get posted on YouToot,” said an ABC spokesperson.

December 2014: Whoopi “Pretends” to Fart Again on The View

While chatting about flu shots with R&B singer Ashanti on December 10, 2014, Whoopi seemed to let out another one. Maybe it’s her diet or maybe some topics get her stomach churning?

It started with Whoopi turning to the camera and talking about how many Americans are afraid to get the flu shot. But, she said, doctors “insist that it’s biologically impossible” to get sick. “Do you all get the shot?” she asked the rest of the group.

“I will not get the shot,” said Ashanti, clapping her hands on the counter for emphasis. “I feel like, why do I want to inject something into my skin that’s gonna make me—”

By the time Ashanti got to the word “inject,” the audience could hear a loud “whooshing” sound.

“Excuse me!” said Whoopi, clutching her butt cheeks and pushing away from the table. Everyone at the table begins busting up in laughter as Rosie O’Donnell joins in the fun. She gets up from the opposite side of the table and walks towards Whoopi’s chair (Whoopi has since walked far away) while waving her hands to get the “smell” to dissipate.

“I feel so much better now,” Whoopi declared.

“You know, those breakfast burritos, they kill ya,” said O’Donnell.

“It was the flu shot,” we hear as the camera pans out.

Whoopi Later Denied Farting in Front of Ashanti: “I Don’t Fart on Air for Real!”

A day or two after the Ashanti farting incident, Whoopi assured everyone it was a joke.

“There was a sound effect that we had never heard before. I’m thinking, ‘Damn, that’s weird, what can I do?’ Oh, I know! I’m gonna pretend I let a little something go. As a joke,” said Goldberg (via Evening Standard).

“Now, these folks are emailing people, running up on people saying, ‘How do you feel about the fart, that Whoopi did on The View?’ It’s a joke!” she continued. “I know you think that I don’t [make jokes] anymore, I do, I make funnies. I don’t fart on air for real! So, everybody relax, I didn’t fart on air, it was a joke.”

Now Whoopi’s messing with our heads. And I mean our brains, not our noses!

January 2023: A Fart Sound and a Random Puddle on The View Desk Occur Simultaneously

Alyssa Farah Griffin was interrupted on January 26, 2023, by what certainly sounded like a loud fart sound. This one was more like Donald Duck letting out a quack. But it’s possible that this one wasn’t Whoopi?

What we observe is Whoopi pointing out a puddle on the desk to co-host Sarah Haines. Haines immediately moves to clean it up. As her right hip ever so barely lifts up, we hear the “quack” sound. But at the same time, Whoopi appears to take a breath, and as her chest lifts up, it’s possible to imagine that she did a little “micro-lift” thing on her chair.

Griffin stops talking because she’s laughing. “Oh, we had a little spillage on the other side,” she says.

“Now it’s on my pants,” says Haines.

Truly, this appeared to be either something totally random sliding across and making a friction sound, or Haines. Or a third possibility is that Whoopi Goldberg is such a seasoned TV tooter that she’s now getting her jollies from setting other people up.

This brings us full circle to the March 15, 2023 gas passing incident. At this point, there’s been so much back and forth about Whoopi’s flatulence that it’s impossible to tell what’s real and what’s not.

We’re all so confused!
