The U.S. version of The Masked Singer is developing a freaky — maybe even freakish — reputation.
First, there was the bizarre incident of disgraced ex-New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani showing up unbeknownst to the judges of the reality-TV competition. Two of them, singer Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong — known as a good-natured actor who courageously appeared naked in The Hangover — walked off the set in protest.
Then there was the hoopla around football quarterback Tom Brady. He supposedly skipped training camp so he could perform on the show.
Fortunately for the show, its latest twist is of the more feel-good variety — even if a horror movie icon is at the center of it.
Linda Blair apparently blew away the Masked Singer judges during its latest stretch, Season 8. The actor set the gold standard for spooky kids with her starring role in The Exorcist.

The show’s producer, Craig Plestis, told Deadline in March:
“It’s a challenge to outdo ourselves,” he said. “To come up with some things that are going to sparkle and get America excited. I think there’s some ideas that we’re playing with with the network that are going to be super exciting and the first time that we ever see something.”
Plestis was apparently telling the truth. On the latest episode of Masked Singer, which had a horror-movie theme, Linda Blair eliminated herself so the other contestants could stand a better chance of winning the competition, according to Screen Rant.
“When I chose to unmask, I had to explain that I wanted the other people to compete properly because this was their livelihood,” Blair recently told Entertainment Weekly.
The show debuted Stateside on Fox in January 2019.
