Did John Krasinski finally break news about an Office reunion? Well, not exactly … but it’s probably the closest Krasinski will come to addressing the perennial interview question.

During his Wednesday appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, John Krasinski joked about making a new Office spinoff.

Jimmy Fallon pointed out to Krasinski during the interview that he’s reuniting with Steve Carell for a new film, If. Without being able to keep a straight face — which is usually a problem that Fallon, not his guests, has — Krasinski replied joshingly.

“I should’ve started with, ‘This is the Office reunion movie,’” John Krasinski joked.

Naturally, the studio audience erupted with cheers, even though Krasinski was clearly speaking in jest. After all, The Office still stands as one of the most popular American sitcoms of all time. (And it’s certainly the biggest mockumentary TV show ever.)

John Krasinski quickly turned to the audience, muttering that he was kidding.

“It’s not [an Office reunion],” he said. “It’s not. No.”

The story continues after the video:

John Krasinski went on to talk about If, a film he is directing. In addition to Carell, it will star Ryan Reynolds, Fleabag genius Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Louis Gossett Jr., per IMDb (Yes, you read that last name right.)

If is a movie about imaginary friends,” he said. “Yes, they’re these fun, adorable ideas that kids have. But they’re also time capsules for all our ambition, dreams [and] our hopes when we were kids. So the movie’s about, ‘What if we could tap back into that?’”

Or “what If,” we should probably say.

The film is due to hit theaters on November 17, 2023, according to Variety.

Almost 10 years after The Office ended, it seems as if every actor who appeared in the show can’t get through a talk show without answering questions about a possible reunion.

Krasinski showed up on the big screen in early May. He made a surprise appearance as Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
