The comedian started the ongoing saga with a tweet she posted on Tuesday: “If you don’t want a Civil War, vote for Democrats in November. If you do want Civil War, vote Republican.”

After some Twitter users apparently complained that Kathy Griffin was trying to incite a riot, she tweeted again.

“You guys,” she wrote. “The maga blue checks are at it again. Because they are constantly threatening Civil War, they are now trying to suggest that I am the one who is threatening a Civil War. Because you know, that’s my thing.”

Also, Kathy Griffin retweeted and thanked a supporter who wrote that she had made an observation, not a threat.

The bickering continued Wednesday when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene chimed in.

“Americans just want their elected leaders to solve the problems that have been shoved into their lives by stupid politicians. Not your civil war. Instead, tell your governor to increase fossil fuel use so people can have air conditioning.”

To that remark, Griffin snapped back: “Can someone please just get this poor woman some extra toes? Thx.”

Kathy Griffin’s comments come amid a series of mass shootings and assaults on authorities including members of the FBI.

After the FBI raided the home of former President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, the phrase “civil war” is trending heavily on social media, per The New Yorker.

Both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security recently issued warnings about the ongoing threat of domestic terrorism.

Additionally, President Joe Biden earlier this month warned that “equality and democracy are under assault. We do ourselves no favor to pretend otherwise.”
