‘Drowning’ Texts Reveal More Ugliness In Depp, Heard Relationship

An explicit text message exchange between Johnny Depp and actor Paul Bettany was presented as evidence in court on Thursday amid Depp’s ongoing defamation suit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard in Fairfax, Virginia.

Heard’s attorney Ben Rottenborn showed the court texts between Bettany and Depp including one in which the two actors once joked about killing Heard:

Depp texted, “Let’s burn Amber!”

Bettany replied, “I’m not sure we should burn Amber. She is delightful company and pleasing on the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool.”

Depp replied: “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead.”

Bettany shot back, “My thoughts entirely! Lets be CERTAIN before we pronounce her a witch.”

Depp read aloud many text messages in court Thursday. In them, he called her vulgar names like “ugly c***,” “worthless hooker” and “filthy whore.”

Depp has previously stated that he has a dark sense of humor.

“When I write something, when I write a text, especially if I’m in a particularly impassioned place it’s a canvas, it’s a painting,” he testified in court Thursday.

Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation over an op-ed she wrote about domestic violence in The Washington Post in 2018. Depp was not named in the article, but his lawyers argue that Heard’s implication is obvious.

Meanwhile, Heard is countersuing for $100 million for nuisance, with her attorneys arguing that the op-ed was a matter of public interest.
