Cole Hauser appears to be back in the saddle with a new Western in the wake of his success on Yellowstone.
Hauser will play a marshal in Dead Man’s Hand, a new Western that just finished production in New Mexico, Deadline reported Tuesday.
That role should serve as a welcome contrast to the part of ranch foreman Rip Wheeler that he plays in the Paramount Network’s Yellowstone. Also, Dead Man’s Hand seems to be more action-oriented than Yellowstone, judging by the storyline that Deadline laid out in its report.
Cole Hauser rubbed elbows on the movie’s production with Stephen Dorff and Jack Kilmer, according to Deadline. Kilmer reportedly plays a retired gunslinger who teams with Hauser’s marshal character to do battle with Dorff’s nasty cattle baron.
Brian Skiba, who directed the movie, told Deadline that all three actors delivered “exceptional performances” during the shoot. “Dead Man’s Hand is a western rooted in a tragic love story followed by retaliation and nonstop action,” Skiba said.
Yellowstone, the smash hit Western drama series, started in 2018 and came back for its fifth season last month. Creator Taylor Sheridan is already working on the script for Season 6 of Yellowstone.
Cole Hauser on the Rise
Meanwhile, Cole Hauser continues to build up a career with impressive credentials. In addition to his roles in Westerns, his performance in the 2000 war drama Tigerland earned him a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.
He’s also due to star alongside Morgan Freeman in the action-thriller Muti, although its makers haven’t yet announced a release date.
Hauser is the great-grandson of Harry M. Warner from Warner Bros and he comes from a line of Hollywood screenwriters and producers.
Cole Hauser’s long list of film credits includes a wide range of material. Most notably, his past roles included Good Will Hunting, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the beloved classic Dazed and Confused.
