Keith Lendore, a 26-year-old sailor stationed aboard the USS Whidbey Island, was shot and killed Friday night after he and his roommate went to a party in Norfolk, Virginia. Two Old Dominion University students were also shot, and are expected to recover.
According to Jay Evans, Lendore’s roommate, the two men arrived at the off-campus party around 11:30 pm. At that point, the house was full and people were not being admitted into the house, so Evans and Lendore were waiting outside, mingling with other partygoers until they could get in. Shots rang out not long after, allegedly because a group of men were told they couldn’t come inside the house. Evans saw Lendore lying in the street, and realized that he had been shot. He held his friend as he died, waiting for help to arrive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Now, Naval Criminal Investigative Service is working with the Norfolk Police Department to find out who is responsible for the murder.
