The Marine Corps on Tuesday identified him as 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft of Vienna, Missouri. He was found shot in the head Monday morning at Camp Pendleton.

Officials at the base north of San Diego say he was taking part in a training exercise in which live ammunition was used.

Schraft joined the Marines in August 2014. He was a field radio operator assigned to the 1st Marine Division.

The shooting is under investigation.
