The Founding Farmers Brewing Company, based in Minnesota, takes its pledge to helping military families very seriously. Not only does the company want to create great-tasting beer, it also donates half of its profits to military organizations.
The company’s CEO, Phil Knutsen, started the company after leaving behind a successful 22-year career.
“In 2009, I hit a crossroads in my life where I could finish my career doing that or doing something different,” he told WCCO. “I decided to branch out and do something else on my own.”
He hopes the company will take on larger beer companies by offering a domestic premium lager that Knutsen says tastes better.
The company has found great success so far. Knutsen recently made an agreement that made his Founding Fathers Light available at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
The company has also partnered with Minnesota-based airline Sun Country Airlines to make the beer available on its flights.
Nationally, Knutsen works with the Armed Forces Relief Society and, in 2014, the company was approved by the 2.3 million members of the American Legion to be a partner of that organization. These groups benefit directly from the sale of every cold brew.
