The eight women remaining in the Army’s elite Ranger School have failed to advance to the next phase of training and will be recycled. 115 soldiers will move forward to the mountain phase of the course.

19 female students started Ranger School in April. By the end of Ranger Assessment Phase, or RAP week, only eight of them were left. RAP is considered one of the most physically demanding portions of the school.

The phase that the eight women were unable to pass is the Darby Phase at Fort Benning, Georgia, which focuses heavily on leadership, with things like working successfully as a squad leader or leading patrols.

All eight women, and 101 male soldiers who did not complete the Darby Phase, will be sent back to re-attempt Phase One of Ranger School.
