GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has promised to ban Muslims from entering the United States as a way to prevent acts of terror, should he become president. That plan has put fear in one 8-year-old girl. But, a former soldier is helping to make the little girl feel better.

Melissa Chance Yassini’s daughter, Sofia, was watching the news with her grandmother when she heard Trump’s plan. Her daughter was scared that their family would be kicked out of America. Yassini, a Muslim-America, shared her daughter’s fear in a Facebook post that’s been shared more than 22,000 times.

Yassini’s post caught the attention of Colorado Army veteran Kerri Peek who sent a special message to Sofia.

“Please show this picture of me to your daughter. Tell her I am a Mama too and as a soldier I will protect her from the bad guys,” Peek wrote, according to Upworthy.

“Darkness will never prevail. Blessed be to you and your family,” she added.

Peek asked other service members to join her with the hashtag #IWillProtectYou.

Veterans and service members answered her call in droves with photos and messages promising to stamp out hate and stand up to bigotry.

Yassini said she is thankful for the support from Peek and her fellow veterans.
