George Hood had quite a day Saturday.

The former marine and retired Drug Enforcement Administration agent held the plank position for five hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds, shattering the previous record of just under four-and-a-half hours.

What prompted Hood to spend five hours in this excruciating position?

The event, held just north of San Diego, was “a fundraiser to benefit the Semper Fi Fund for injured U.S. service members, a charity that’s near and dear to Hood’s heart,” NBC San Diego reports.

“There are injured Marines that come back from the fight, who have suffered life-altering injuries and the discomfort that I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they feel,” the new world record holder told NBC.

“So, we raise money to help them. We tend to forget about them sometimes. This helps raise awareness and draw attention to them – and I’m about that.”

And did he have to say about the feat once he was done?

“I will lose some weight today and I will be very, very sore. But we will achieve our mission,” Hood told NBC
