Last night, we got a glimpse into what made Noah Galloway who he was on Dancing With The Stars. His parents reminisced about his childhood, while Noah explained that, until the age of 20, his life was directionless. Then the attacks on 9/11 happened, and he knew what to do. He joined the military, and found that he thrived as a soldier. He loved it, wanted to make it his career, and said, “I found what I had been looking for.” But then, the IED blast that took his arm and leg happened.

As Galloway explained earlier in the season, he struggled with depression and alcohol abuse before pulling himself back into shape.

After that introduction, which left the audience cheering, Noah and his partner Sharna danced a waltz to American Idol alum David Cook’s “The Time of My Life.”

After their waltz, the judges had rave reviews, with head judge Len Goodman calling it his best dance yet. His scores showed it, too, with the pair earning a season-high 36 out of 40. And he knew exactly what he wanted to do to celebrate. Galloway’s girlfriend Jamie Boyd, also a soldier, found a spot in America’s heart when she surprised him by appearing on the show after finishing basic training.  This time, it was Galloway who had the surprise, who dropped to his knee in front of everyone and asked her to marry him!

She, of course, said yes, and everyone watching was crying and cheering for the happy couple.
