A pilot was flying a replica World War II Spitfire in the United Kingdom when disaster struck: his landing gear failed.

He was forced to radio in to airfield bosses and notify them that he couldn’t release his landing gear.

The situation was made even more dire thanks to the high winds that day. Skydivers in the area were delayed from jumping to ensure that the pilot had a safe landing field.

Emergency services were called, and the pilot circled the runway to burn off fuel before attempting the daring landing.

Luckily, he nailed it, descending safely onto the grass. The plane, which contains original Spitfire parts, suffered a little damage when the propeller came off, and the pilot is being applauded for managing the landing under such dramatic circumstances.
