Social media lit up this weekend after Allen West wrote on his blog that the Navy would be charging Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White for illegally discharging a weapon on federal property. West said that he was informed of the charges in a text message, but refused to name his sources. People were understandably furious about the idea of White being charged for fighting back against a crazed maniac, as four Marines and one sailor were killed in the shooting.

Now, the Navy has finally responded on social media. While they did not post anything specifically related to the Chattanooga shooting, or Lt. Cmdr. White, their page was flooded with angry comments over the alleged charges.  Navy personnel responded to those comments with the following message:

Stories of Navy personnel being charged with an offense are not true. There is still a long way to go in reviewing the facts of this tragic incident, but at this time we can confirm no service member has been charged with an offense.

While the Navy is denying that White has been charged, some are still not pacified, noting that the statement says that no one has been charged “at this time”.
