This week, the country was in mourning as they learned that an American service member was killed in action in the fight against ISIS. Master Sergeant Josh Wheeler participated in a raid that freed over 70 hostages, but sadly lost his own life in the process. Now, his former high school is honoring his life and his service.

Wheeler graduated from Muldrow High School in Oklahoma over 20 years ago, in 1994. But his presence left an impact, and the faculty members that knew him are deeply feeling his loss. Flags outside of the school are flying at half staff. Principal Steve Page halted classes to announce Wheeler’s death, and to ask for everyone to stand and honor his life with a moment of silence. His football coach, Randy Martin, spoke of how proud he was of Wheeler.

It may have been over two decades since Wheeler walked the halls of Muldrow High School. But he isn’t going to be forgotten anytime soon.
