Misty Kennedy thought she was just welcoming her boyfriend, Army Sergeant Anthony Vance, home from his latest deployment. He had been serving a tour in South Korea for six months, and she was gathered at the Sacramento International Airport with other family and friends. The Patriot Guard Riders showed up to welcome him home as well, with American flags waving to celebrate his return. But little did Kennedy know that Sgt. Vance had a big surprise planned for her.
While she waited for him to make his appearance, things started to get a little interesting. Strangers were coming down the escalator and handing her roses. It turns out that he had recruited 22 passengers on his plane to give roses to his girlfriend, with the last rose coming from the soldier himself. The crowd cheered as he descended towards her, but that wasn’t all he had planned. There, in front of everyone and amidst applause, he got down on one knee and proposed. And with a proposal like that, there’s no surprise to her answer: she said yes.
